The first thing
your web site needs is a name. A domain name is used to identify your site from
all the other sites on the Internet. Our domain name is: InternetDesign.com (Domain
names are not case sensitive - do you can type in INTERNETDESIGN.COM, internetdesign.com,
or any other variant).
Choosing a domain name Ideally you will want a .com domain name.
These are still the ones people remember the most. There are exceptions, but
.com is almost always preferable. Other options include:
| .org |
Supposed to be used by non-profit organizations. |
| .net |
Like .com, but usually less memorable (unless you
have something like "CaughtInThe.net" |
| .biz |
For any Bizness (Business). This extension is being used a lot,
and can be a good second choice to a .com |
| .info |
This can be an excellent extension to use - if you are dealing
in or providing information. |
There are a wealth of other top level domains - .co.uk of British
companies, .co.au for Australian ones, .edu for educational facilities, .mil
for military ones. There are many hundreds, but for most, the ones listed here
are enough.
We can supply .com, .net, .biz and .info for $19.95 per year (Please
note - .info and .biz need to be registered for a minimum of two years). We can
set the domains up, point them to our servers, and enter all the information
you need into them. We will make sure that the domain ownership is in your name, not in ours.
